I was studying something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is novel. To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer. Attributed to Paul Ehrlich

Dear Jeff Collins:
Thank you very much for letting me write to you. This is my first time i have visited your website, keep up the great work that you are doing, and best wishes.
I used to listen to you on the radio on WBVD 1570 AM up here in the Beverly/Danvers,Massachusetts area which was the old WMLO,and now WNSH 1570 AM,when you used to be known as"The Golden Hippo"and playing all of the oldies, and that you had a sound effect, where you would stump listeners with a trivia question.
I do remember you used to team up with Steve Rawley on WBVD once in a while at the old Clinton Avenue studios,in Danvers.I do know quite a lot about the old radio station, and the types of transmitters it had,as well as some of the stuff they had years ago.Plus the people who worked there back then.
WBVD like the old WMLO used to use the Gates 250 watt X 2 AM Transmitters, and both produced about 500 watts of power, and used the large electron tubes inside of the transmitter cabinet, that had to be cooled off using an fan to cool off the tubes that produced a lot of heat, and the two transmitters were tuned to the frequency 1570 AM.
The radio station used the CBS Laboratories exciter that was mounted into an old 1950's style RCA Transmitter cabinet which was a steel gray cabinet with the chrome on the front, and the red on it,plus the letters "RCA"that was located on the top front of the cabinet on the right side of the Gates transmitter facing the wall near the window to the outside of the building.
Plus there was also some radio transmitter parts,in the box on the table as well as electron tubes iinside of the storage cabinet on the wall.
They had the old Magnavox Hi-FI set upstairs where the secretary's desk was,and it had the AM/FM radio receiver, and the old 4 speed turntable in it.Plus on the wall on the right side it had the speaker above the desk, and was playing the music when the radio station was on the air,and there was the studio, and production room where it had the ON AIR signs on the wall.Plus the two large radio towers outback of the building.
I used to work there when I was a sophomore at Danvers High School at the age of 17 years old in January 1981,and I read the weather forecast into the microphone on the counter, and the late great Dave Sheehan was playing the records on the turntables back then.Sheehan passed away at the age of 54 years old in March of 2006 from cancer.
They had great programming on WBVD back then as well as WMLO.,and up to WNSH 1570 AM later on.I lloved the radio station very much.I do remember Nancy who was the secretary there years ago,and disc jockey Eli Sherr
who took over from Dave Sheehan, and Andrea Shea, and Kevin Mackillhenny did the news on WBVD,along with later on Scott Hooper.Hooper who also did the news on WMLO back then.
The station managers were Geoffrey Metcalf, and before that was Samuel A."Sammy"Whitmore, and then there was Mark Snyder.Snyder also worked at WBVD too.Plus there was Jerry"DeSalvatore"Newbury"who did the WBVD Swap Shop,Brian Keohane did the disc jockey work,on WBVD,and Mario costa did Radio Portugal on WBVD
playing a lot of Portuguese music,Angelo Evmorfopoulos who did The North Shore Greek American Radio Show with Fred Evans Evmorfopoulos, and Chris Culkeen on WBVD,and Angelo also dis his show on WMLO,and then later on at WNSH 1570 AM.
Angelo passed away at the age of 82 years old in March of 2009.He was one of my favorite hosts of the Greek program, and there was Steve and Kay Soldiuk who did The Steve And Kay Polka Review on WMLO,and later on on WBVD Jan Lankowski along with Polish Annie did the Polka show on Sunday afternoons.Ther was also Antonio Guarino who hosted his Minestrone radio program playing a lot of Italian-American music on WBVD,and later onto WNSH,and he is not doing his program anymore on WNSH.He is now working at Antonio's Tailor Shop in Peabody,MA.
Yes i do know quite a lot about the old radio station, and much much more.I do remember you used to team up with Dean Avellis doing the trivia at The Ground Round Restaurant in the year 1985 near The Liberty Tree mall in Danvers,MA which became The Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon, and today it is called the 99 Pub.
The Ground Round was great, and had the peanut shells on the ground, and the old popcorn on the ground too.
I sure do remember the good old days back then.Keep up the great wok that you are doing, and bet wishes.
I also do know who lives in Englewood,FL i do not know if you know them they are Kenneth J.,and his wife Carol Ann Ashton, and their two daughters Dawn Marie, and Kelly Jean Ashton.I do know them very well, and they have lived here in Danvers,MA years ago.Dawn was my childhood friend, sweetheart, and my second girlfriend who I dated from May 1982 to November 1986,and she broke up with me.Dawn passed away in April of 1998 at the age of 35 years old from a history of epilepsy which brought on heat failure.
i do remember Dawn, and also Kelly, and their dog Nicole who was a white French Poodle which was a very friendly dog,but it barked a lot.
Yes I do remember the good old days of how it was years ago,and me listening to WMLO,WBVD,and also WNSH 1570 AM back up to today.
By the way I have some great news,my birthday will be on Sunday March 6,and I will be turning 48 years old.Well what do you think of me turning 48?It is a great age you know.
It would be great if you Jeff Collins can please wish me a very"Happy 48th Birthday",and send me an e-mail back if you like to wish me all of the very best.
